70% of the SEO done in the case of a content website is the content website. No matter how cliche it sounds. This holds true even in 2022. So 70% of your efforts should also be focused on creating great content that matches your website’s theme. With that out of the way, let us now discuss what else should be your focus.

Even though I have said content creation is 70%. Still, content creation without SEO will only get you only so far. If you really want to achieve something, then SEO should be at the back of your mind always, particularly when you create content.

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is basically helping your website to be seen by the search engines if you want to be seen by anyone using those search engines to get to your information to make you money and increase the value of your website.

But SEO is more than just keywords, although that should be your first step. What follows is a handy guide to what you need to do to make sure your website is optimized for maximum profit. Only then can you hope to make money site flipping!

Step 1: Find a great keyword or topic to write about

Finding topics and keywords for which there are no good results available on Google. The topic should be pretty relevant to your website’s theme. Half of the battle will be already won if you could select a great topic or keyword that matches the following criteria:

  • Doesn’t have good search results
  • It is relevant to your website’s theme
  • It has good value for your business

Step 2: Write good content that matches the Search Intent

The most important thing that you should focus on here is Search Intent.

Search Intent is the type of information the user is looking for.

The best way to find search intent is to search for the topic or keyword and see what kind of results Google is showing. Suppose you searched knife and most of the top results are E-commerce but you’re planning to write an informative guide. Then you should not go ahead with this keyword because this does not match the search intent and you’ll be having a hard time ranking your article for this keyword.

Why should you care about SEO?

I know most of your time will be taken up by either finding a good topic or writing great content. Then why should you care about SEO? Actually, SEO is not different from content creation. It should always be part of your mindset whenever you’re creating content for the website.

You may have a great article for a keyword but if your title doesn’t attract users’ attention then Google will demote it in its results because Click Through Rate is also one of the factors Google takes into consideration when ranking an article. You can get to the first page of your Google based on the quality of your article. But if it doesn’t grab attention, it will not stay in the top results for long.

All of your SEO efforts can be divided into two parts viz. On-page Vs Off-page

On-Page SEO

On-page SEO efforts are the one that you control directly like your website, its URL, the quality of content, SEO optimization of content, internal linking, good link neighborhood, etc.

However, there are two factors that too often get overlooked. The first and most common is outbound links. Many people see others jamming their sites full of outbound links and think this is the thing to do. However, too many outbound links to low-quality and low-ranking sites can drop your rankings.

The second is overlooking the importance of internal linking. This is linking your pages together through text links within your copy, not just the main navigation tabs. This can increase how relevant the search engines see your site and keep your site cleaner looking.

Armed with this info you should be able to get a good start on your SEO techniques DIY style. Do some more research, look out for what others are not telling you and be wary of black hat SEO techniques that promise big results for minimal bucks.

Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO efforts are the ones that you do not controll at all or have a partial control i.e. backlinks. Off-page SEO basically tells Search engines what others think about you.

Off-page SEO techniques are used to create backlinks to your website and improve your search engine rankings. Unfortunately, many new online marketers are under the misconception that they need as many incoming links as possible at all costs. While a large number of incoming links may give you more channels to bring in traffic. They aren’t going to help unless they are placed on high-quality, related sites which have good rankings and traffic numbers themselves. Quality always wins over quantity.

If you are new to all this, I’d suggest you should devote majority of your time to On-page SEO efforts. Off-page SEO efforts should only be explored at least after 3-6 months of your website creation. Any content that you create on your website will be more helpful than writing guest posts, etc.

Do you need to post regularly?

This is a common misconception among content creators that you need to post regularly to show consistency. But they forget one thing, consistency may be good for your business but the user does not care how consistently you’re posting as long as they are getting relevant info.

So it’s always great to post 2 or 3 great articles a month than posting average content every other day.
