Can you really make money online by running websites?

Most visitors to this website are either running an online business or looking to start one. So in this blog post, we are announcing a series of blog posts as well as Youtube videos where I’ll be sharing my successes and failures along the way. It is quite rare to find an honest behind the scenes story in this industry. So I intend to create one.

I am no marketing guru or claim to be one. I am just an average Joe is running some website. I am good with technical stuff but new to creating content websites. So I’d love to get some unfiltered advice as well. Just don’t be mean.

Purpose

The purpose of this series is to show document my journey as a content website creator and hopefully share my journey with others so that they know what they are getting into. I will try to share as much details about the websites as I can without decreasing my chances of success. I will share the process, technicality and everything in between.

What I’ll share

  • How to build a WordPress content website business?
  • What process do we follow to create websites?
  • How do we create content for our websites?
  • Why you MUST have a process to successfully run an online business?
  • Do I make any money doing just that?
  • How do I run my websites?

Who am I?

In case you don’t know, I am Aditya from New Delhi, India. I have done my Bachelor’s in Engineering in Computer Science. I have experience of working on websites for more than 12 years. I have created many websites over the years but only started taking them seriously as a business only in 2021 when I had a revelation that most websites start to show any significant Google or Organic traffic only after 6 months or so. To help you understand that I need to tell you the backstory.

Backstory

This happened by chance actually. I was running a website back in 2019 in the Education niche on Google Compute Engine. So every month I was incurring a constant cost of $25. Initially, I didn’t pay much attention but then over a year or so when I didn’t see any results from the site, I did the same thing that most people does i.e. I deleted it!

But after few days I was searching for something I can’t remember what. To my surprise, my website was shown at the second rank in Google. I was amazed to see that the website was ranking. But the sad part was I didn’t have that website now. I was so naive that I didn’t even take any snapshot or something.

So long story short, I had a website for which I worked for more than a year to rank it on Google and then out of sheer frustration and to save a few bucks, I deleted it. The sad part was I didn’t have it now!

But this proved an important thing for me that running a website can be a profitable business. It doesn’t matter how many times you’re told one thing. But you believe in something only after you experience it. The only thing that came out good was that it made me believe in running an online business which I was never thought about before.

Now, I won’t claim that I am an expert in marketing or running any online business. I have worked on some startup ideas and that is it. No experience of running a profitable content website whatsoever except a brief stint which I have talked above.

In this series, I will document how I plan to start an online website business and share my journey so that everyone can know whether it is profitable or not. Marketing gurus make all sorts of preposterous claims but let’s see for ourself whether there is any truth in it or not.

My Portfolio

I run 6 websites with the following URLs

So, we are starting a series where we’ll be detailing the process that we have to run our websites.

Why should you follow this series?

If you are looking to create an online content website then you know how tough it is to get backstage information in this field. Barring IncomeSchool (Disclaimer: I am not associated with them), there is no so-called online marketing gurus who share there complete process. Though they don’t share it completely either. But 40% of what I’ll share is something that I have learned from their freely available resources.

You should definitely check them out. They seem to cater to only English speaking markets focusing primarily on United states. India doesn’t have any such community and has some unique challenges. So I intent to create one through this series!

Who should follow?

Anyone:

  • Who is either running a content website or intend to create one.
  • Who wants to know the reality of running an online business (there can by many, we are focusing on one).
